Who can use Doggy Dates?

Doggy Dates is strictly for people aged 18 or over. People under 18 must not create or use an account. Doggy Dates may require age assurance or age verification before access to some or all features.

Information we may process

This may include account and authentication information, owner profile information, dog profiles and photographs, likes, passes, matches, messages, meet requests, verification information, age-verification status, reports, blocks, moderation records, safety events, subscription information, payment references and limited technical/security information.

Why we use information

We may process information to create and secure accounts, provide profiles, discovery, matching, messaging and meet requests, operate verification and safety functions, provide Doggy Dates Plus, prevent fraud and abuse, investigate reports, moderate the service, provide support, secure Doggy Dates and comply with applicable legal obligations.

Lawful bases

Depending on the processing, Doggy Dates may rely on contract, legitimate interests, legal obligation, consent or, in exceptional circumstances, vital interests. We will not treat consent as the lawful basis for every activity.

Messages and meetings

Messages and meet information are processed to provide Doggy Dates functionality. Access must be restricted appropriately. Users should avoid unnecessarily sharing highly sensitive information or exact home addresses.

Verification

Owner and dog verification information is used for platform integrity and safety. Verification photographs are not ordinary public profile photographs and should be access restricted and retained only for an appropriate period.

18+ age verification

Doggy Dates uses Didit for 18+ age verification. Didit may process identity-document information, selfie or liveness information and related verification data as part of the check. Doggy Dates records the verification outcome needed to operate the service and does not intentionally retain a copy of the user's identity document in the Doggy Dates database.

Payments

Doggy Dates Plus payments may be processed by Stripe. Doggy Dates should not retain full card details where Stripe can process those details directly.

Service providers

Doggy Dates currently uses or plans to use services including Supabase, Cloudflare, Stripe and Resend. Doggy Dates uses Didit for 18+ age verification.

Retention

We will not retain personal information indefinitely simply because storage is available. Different categories of information will have defined retention periods and will be deleted or anonymised when no longer reasonably required, subject to legitimate legal, safety, security, fraud-prevention, accounting or claims requirements.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent where consent is relied upon. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office where applicable.

Security

Doggy Dates uses technical and organisational measures intended to protect information, including authentication, access restrictions, secure connections, database security controls, restricted administrative access and secure secret management.

Account deletion

Users will be provided with an appropriate way to request deletion of their account. Some limited information may be retained where legitimately necessary for legal obligations, accounting, fraud prevention, user safety, investigations or legal claims.

Marketing and cookies

Creating a Doggy Dates account does not automatically constitute consent to all direct marketing. Optional analytics, advertising or similar non-essential technologies will be assessed separately and consent obtained where legally required.

Children

Doggy Dates is an adult-only service. If we discover that an under-18 user has obtained an account, access may be restricted or terminated and relevant information handled appropriately.

1. About Doggy Dates

Doggy Dates is an online service intended to help adult dog owners discover other owners and dogs, communicate, match and arrange potential walks, play dates and meetings.

2. 18+ only

You must be at least 18 years old to create or use a Doggy Dates account. We may require age verification, including for accounts created before age verification is introduced.

Providing a false age, using another person's information or documents, or attempting to circumvent age controls may result in restriction or termination.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information and take reasonable steps to keep your account secure. You must not impersonate another person, create misleading accounts, sell or improperly transfer an account, or create new accounts to evade a ban.

4. Dog information

You are responsible for taking reasonable care to ensure information about your dog is accurate and not misleading, including information relevant to behaviour and safety.

5. Verification

Doggy Dates may provide age, owner and dog verification. Verification means only that the applicable verification procedure was completed. It is not a DBS check, criminal-record check, endorsement or guarantee of character, safety, dog temperament, health, behaviour or future conduct.

6. Discover, likes and matches

A match creates no obligation to communicate or meet. Nobody is entitled to another user's attention, response or agreement to meet.

7. Messaging

Messaging must not be used for harassment, threats, scams, fraud, unwanted sexual content, unlawful activity, spam or repeatedly contacting somebody who has clearly asked you to stop.

8. Real-world meetings

Doggy Dates is not the organiser, supervisor, chaperone or participant in meetings arranged between users.

Users decide independently whether to meet and remain responsible for exercising their own judgement, taking sensible precautions and appropriately controlling and supervising their dogs.

9. Safety tools

Features such as Checked In, I Am Safe and I Need Help are supplementary safety tools. They are not emergency services, professional security services or guaranteed monitoring systems. In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency services.

10. Reporting and blocking

Users may report or block others. Doggy Dates may investigate reports and take proportionate action including warnings, restrictions, suspension or permanent termination.

11. Prohibited conduct

Doggy Dates must not be used for illegal activity, harassment, threats, stalking, scams, impersonation, animal cruelty, deliberate dangerous-dog misrepresentation, sexual exploitation, exploitation of children, malicious software, unauthorised commercial spam, ban evasion or other serious abuse.

12. User content

You retain ownership of content you create, subject to rights belonging to others. You grant Doggy Dates the limited rights reasonably necessary to host, process, display, secure and moderate that content and operate the service.

13. Doggy Dates Plus

Doggy Dates Plus may currently be offered at £4.99 monthly or £45 yearly. The price and billing terms shown immediately before purchase govern the transaction. Recurring billing must be clearly disclosed.

14. Cancellation and refunds

Doggy Dates Plus may be cancelled at any time. Cancellation stops the subscription from renewing again. Unless a refund or earlier termination is required by law, Plus access will normally continue until the end of the period already paid for. Refunds will be provided where required by applicable consumer law, and nothing in these Terms limits or excludes statutory consumer rights.

15. Suspension and termination

Accounts may be restricted, suspended or terminated for serious or repeated breaches, safety concerns, suspected fraud, unlawful conduct, verification abuse, threats to the service or legal/regulatory requirements.

16. Service availability

Doggy Dates aims to provide a reliable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. Features may change as the service develops.

17. Responsibility and liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful. Doggy Dates does not guarantee that every profile statement is true, verification eliminates risk, users or dogs are compatible, another person will attend a meeting or a dog will behave in a particular way.

Users remain responsible for exercising reasonable judgement and for their own conduct and the lawful control and supervision of their dogs.

18. Privacy

Personal information is handled in accordance with the Doggy Dates Privacy Policy.

19. Changes

These Terms may be updated where necessary. Material changes will be brought to users' attention appropriately and users may be required to accept a new version.

20. Governing law

These Terms are intended to be governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to mandatory consumer protections that apply.

18+, Verification & Meeting Safety

Doggy Dates is 18+ only

People under 18 must not create or use an account. Doggy Dates may require effective age assurance before access to relevant functionality.

18+ Verified

Doggy Dates uses Didit to confirm that a user meets the required 18+ age threshold. An 18+ Verified indicator means only that the applicable age-check process indicated that the required age threshold was met. It is not an endorsement or guarantee of character, identity, intentions or safety.

Owner Verified

Owner Verified means that the Doggy Dates owner-verification procedure was completed successfully. It is not a criminal-record check, DBS check, professional reference or guarantee of future behaviour.

Dog Verified

Dog Verified means only that the applicable dog-verification process was completed. It does not guarantee legal ownership, breed, age, vaccination, health, temperament, behaviour, training, insurance or compatibility.

Verification photographs

Verification photographs should be treated as restricted safety/security information rather than public profile photographs and should be retained only as long as reasonably necessary.

Meeting another user

A verification badge, match or accepted meet request should never be interpreted as a guarantee that a meeting will be safe.

Users are encouraged to meet initially in a public place, tell somebody trusted where they are going, keep control of their own transport, avoid unnecessarily disclosing a home address, keep their phone available, leave if uncomfortable and introduce unfamiliar dogs carefully.

Responsibility for dogs

Owners and handlers remain responsible for appropriately controlling their dogs and complying with applicable law. Users should not knowingly conceal behavioural information that could create a material safety risk.

Children at meetings

An adult-only account policy does not mean a dog is necessarily safe around children. Adults remain responsible for protecting and supervising children in their care.

Financial safety

Be suspicious of requests for money, banking credentials, security codes, gift cards, cryptocurrency, passwords or identity documents from another ordinary user.

I Need Help / I Am Safe / Checked In

These are additional safety features only. They do not replace police, ambulance, veterinary emergency services or other professional emergency assistance and transmission or receipt cannot be guaranteed.

Serious incidents

Doggy Dates may restrict accounts, preserve relevant evidence, investigate reports, prevent further contact and cooperate with appropriate authorities where lawful and necessary.

Verified does not mean guaranteed safe.

Community Standards

Respect other users

No threats, intimidation, stalking, bullying, unwanted sexual content, abusive conduct or repeated unwanted contact.

Be truthful

Do not deliberately misrepresent identity, age, photographs, dog identity, dog behaviour or verification status.

Protect animals

Doggy Dates has zero tolerance for deliberate animal cruelty, dog fighting or use of the service to facilitate abuse or injury.

No scams or impersonation

No phishing, fraudulent fundraising, identity theft, payment fraud, advance-fee scams, investment scams or impersonation of another person, organisation or Doggy Dates representative.

No illegal content or activity

Doggy Dates must not be used to create, distribute, solicit or facilitate unlawful content or activity.

Child safety

Doggy Dates is an adult-only service. Sexual exploitation, grooming or abuse of children and child sexual abuse material are strictly prohibited and may be reported to appropriate authorities where required.

Privacy

Do not maliciously publish another person's private information or unlawfully disclose private messages or photographs.

Platform security

Do not attack Doggy Dates, introduce malware, steal credentials, abuse APIs or attempt to bypass security controls.

Moderation

Possible action includes warnings, content removal, verification requirements, feature restrictions, temporary suspension or permanent termination. Serious safety risks may result in immediate restriction while investigated.

Recurring billing

Where a plan renews automatically, this must be made clear before purchase. Unless cancelled, the payment method associated with the subscription may be charged for the next applicable period.

Cancellation

Doggy Dates Plus may be cancelled at any time. Cancellation stops future renewal. Unless an earlier termination or refund is required by law, Plus access will normally continue until the end of the period already paid for.

Refunds

Refunds may be issued where required by law, where an incorrect or duplicate charge occurred, where a qualifying service problem justifies one or at Doggy Dates' discretion.

Failed payments

Plus features may be restricted after failed payment processing where appropriate.

Price changes

Price changes will apply prospectively and existing subscribers will receive any notice and options required by applicable law.

Statutory rights

Nothing in these terms removes or restricts statutory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Cookies & Local Storage

Doggy Dates may use cookies, local storage, session storage or similar technologies required to provide and secure the service.

Strictly necessary storage

This may be used for authentication, maintaining secure sessions, essential application state, security and fraud prevention.

Analytics

Non-essential analytics will not be introduced without assessing applicable privacy and consent requirements.

Advertising

If advertising or advertising-related tracking is introduced in future, this policy and the relevant consent mechanism will be updated before activation.

Your choices

Where consent is legally required, users should have appropriate controls to accept, reject and later change optional preferences.

Production audit

Before public launch, Doggy Dates will audit the cookies and browser storage actually used by the production service so this policy can be updated with exact technologies and durations.

Account Deletion & Data Rights

Delete your account

Doggy Dates users may request deletion of their account. The production service will provide an accessible deletion process with reasonable authentication to prevent malicious deletion by somebody else.

What is removed?

Subject to legitimate retention requirements, deletion should remove or anonymise active profiles, dog profiles, profile photographs, discovery information, verification material no longer required and other information for which no continuing lawful purpose remains.

Messages involving others

Messages may require deletion, anonymisation or limited retention depending on the rights of both users, safety requirements, reports and legitimate legal/evidence requirements.

Reports, moderation and fraud

Limited information may sometimes be retained after deletion where necessary and proportionate for user protection, serious investigations, ban enforcement, fraud prevention, legal obligations or legal claims.

Payment records

Certain transaction/accounting records may need to be retained for legal, tax, accounting, chargeback, fraud-prevention or claims purposes.

Your data rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and may withdraw consent where consent is relied upon.

Response times

Data-protection requests will be handled within the applicable statutory timeframe.
